I have a thick client app (WPF) and a current minimum resolution
requirement of 1280x768. It had been at 1280x800 but I found that many
people were stuck at the 768 vertical.
Today, our GM said that he's more concerned about the aspect ratio as
people are moving towards HD and he doesn't want us to look weird at
16:9. Aspect ratio isn't really anything I've previously considered and
I'm not getting my head wrapped around his concerns. His concern is that
768 vertical is even further away from a 16:9 aspect ratio.
The existing design has 3 panels that are supposed to act and react in
particular ways at different resolutions. Our only current issue is that
we have some clipping at 768 on one screen but again, I'm not seeing how
aspect ratio factors in.
Do you take aspect ratio into consideration in your designs? If so, what
aspect ratio do you design for?
Looking at info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Display_resolution -
seems like you can expect computers to have a wide variety of aspect
ratios.
Thoughts?
