Hi,

Can someone please point me in the direction of guidance for ADA
compliance. I have a client whose site needs to meet ADA compliance
criteria.

Oh, I also have need for a usability moderator for a cycle of usability
tests here in SF.

Thank you,

Ryan

Hi Ryan,

If the goal is website accessibility, you might start with the Web Content
Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0: http://www.w3.org/TR/WCAG/

Also, you should at least skim through Shawn Lawton Henry's book, Just Ask:
http://uiaccess.com/accessucd/ It covers much more than web site
accessibility, and will also lead you to other resources.

Regards,
Dana

Are there any upcoming conferences or training opportunities in the US
in the field of UX?

I'm in the hinterlands of Las Vegas, NV -- not exactly a place on the
forefront of UX design, so there are no meetups or anything local. In
fact, I'd guess there are perhaps 12 UX people in this entire city.

I'm looking for something broad in scope, rather than tightly focused on
mobile or embedded, etc and my google-fu is failing me for anything
stateside.

Thanks!

Hi Kayla,

Here are some conferences to keep in mind:

IA Summit <http://2012.iasummit.org/> - held annually but this year its in
March and it's in New Orleans (I am speaking at this conference about
Designing for Complexity, sorry for the shameless plug!)

UX Week from Adaptive Path <http://www.adaptivepath.com/events> - held
annually in SF, great conference

An Event Apart <http://aneventapart.com/> - Design, development and UX,
good stuff all around :)

All the best,

Kayla,

You're in luck because this year UPA is in your neighborhood.

Hi Kayla,

Actually, there are a fair number of UX folks in Vegas. Zappos has a great team, and there's interesting stuff happening in the local government, the university, and commercial outfits (both casino-related and non-casino related).

The UPA conference will be in Henderson this year: http://www.usabilityprofessionals.org/conference/2012/

While not completely UX, the Future of Web Design/Apps/Mobile conference will be in Las Vegas proper this spring: http://futureinsightslive.com/

I won't be at either event, but I will be at our UX Immersion conference (which we just opened registration for) in Portland, April 23-25: http://ux-immersion.com

Hope that helps,

Jared
